Is fasting neccessary?

I have heard lots of people fast their betta one day a week.
Is this neccessary? Does it result in better health?

Pros/Cons ??

My little guy looks too cute not to feed for a whole day but if it's better for him I'll do it...

There is no conclusive data to state fasting improves a betta's health. Most of the posters do it if they notice their Betta's stomachs get too rotund after daily feedings (one day a week to clear their stomachs out if you will).

Choice is yours.

Personally, I dont fast them for a whole day, I just feed them alot less than usual a couple days out of the week. But it depends on if your betta gets backed up easy or not :)

Yup, its really more personal choice then anything. I only fast if someone is looking a little on the chubby side, and only that particular fish. I used to fast everyone once a week, but I've gotten into such a routine with feeding I actually forgot to NOT feed them xD So I just don't bother anymore.

I feed my fish once in the morning and once at night, so sometimes I skip a meal but that's it

I do fast my betta one day a week to give his digestive system a rest.

There isn't really a con to fasting, bettas can live without food for a while. A pro would be prevention of constipation.

I can't resist to feed them they get so excited when i came to the tank :) I always tell myself i will give them fasting day but it never work.

I have 2 bettas in the doctor office i am working on saturdays and they don't eat on sundays and mondays because office is closed. And also temperature in the office about 70*. Bettas approx 2.7 years old never had any problems with them. But when i am there on saturdays i make sure they have a feast. :)

Also I heard someone recommended to feed betta once a wk with frozen pea. I wondering if it good idea.

I wondering if pea good for them as a form of a nutrition.
