Can anyone give me types of plants that I can get at a petstore?
I have a 10gal tank, 5 bettas and 2 snails ..
I would like plants that need little or no care at all.

I am curious...is it possible to have a planted 2Gal? I have a Marineland Explorer II (my "cursed" tank that I'm currently sanitizing). It's a really old tank but it works! I read that link that kholder posted and I am super unfamiliar with all the terminology. Nobody I have ever known has had a real planted tank.

Is there a "planted tank for noobs/idiots" section?

Low light plants that you can buy at the petstore include:

Water Wisteria
Anacharis
Anubias
Java Fern
Mosses

Plant bulbs:
Usually Vals and Sagitarias
Also Dwarf Lilies and Tiger Lotuses

I recommend buying online if possible as you'll usually find nicer plants that way. =]

A word of warning: DO NOT USE BLEACH DO NOT.

Seriously. Not worth it. Vinegar, fresh squeezed lemon juice, and course salt do wonders cleaning a tank when acompanied with hot water.

Bleach is toxic to humans and especially to small animals. The residue is near impossible to get off once it's on. It's ruined one of my tanks so I thought I'd warn you.

Yes you can have a planted two gallon. =] I'm planting my 2.5 soon once my plants arrive. =]

You'll need a proper light for it though. A compact Flourescent (the swirly bulbs) that's rated at Daylight (6,500 K(kelvins)). These mimic natural sunlight and your plants grow better under those conditions.

They sell mini CFLS now so you should be able to fit it into your hood but if not then you could always put it in a lamp and aim the light at your tank. =]

Also if you can't order online you could always ask around here on the forums. =] If you or a family member have a paypal sometimes forum members will be willing to give away some of their trimmings for nearly free. =] I know they aren't plants but I just got some snails from a forum member here doing some tank cleaning and I only paid $3.00 via Paypal! =]

I'd give you some of mine once I get them and I have to trim but you're in Canada and I don't really know how that would work out. :[

The last package I sent to Canada took somewhere around 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Im sorry but your dad is very misinformed. Lights cause algae. You can get algae in a tank with absolutely nothing in it and lots of light
