finaly got a heater!

so I noticed that my new guy (had him for a month and still unnamed... i'm an indecisive person lol ) was losing his beautiful green color and turning light blue-gray, so I did a water change, and yesterday I went to petsmart and bought omega one betta buffet flakes which say they have "salmon skin to enhance color" and a 10w heater, as the water temp is only like 73°F, and I thought maybe that's why he was looking sickly. (it is preset, but shuts off at 78°F) and guess what? IT WORKED! his color is turning back to emrald green and he's more active! maybe I'll invest in a better, adjustable heater eventually, 'cause for 17 bucks idk how long it'll last, but for now, it'll do.

Isn't it amazing how temperature affects them? I'm so glad he's feeling better.

thanks guys! but isn't 25w too high for a 2.5 gal? i don't want to cook him!

Nope - I use a 25w in a 2 gal. glass drum bowl. Just monitor it & tweak it till you get it where you want it.

It is amazing how much warmer water affects them! A few days with a heater and Maximus really came around, very active and eating a lot (piggy). A few days before, without the heater, he was anti-social and lazy. So glad I don't have to worry about him any more.

I've got one of the pre-set heaters in my tank as well. It ranges from 74 to 76 degrees which I know is on the low side. I'd much rather have an adjustable and set it much higher, 78 to 80. Do you think that temp increase would make a significant difference for my fish? (5 gallon)

Yep! =] Bettafish are more active in warmer water. =]
