Curious about Bettas

I don't know a whole lot about bettas, so I thought I'd ask a question and see if I could get help. I have a 20g long tank and I was wondering if it's possible to get more than one betta without dividers since the tanks pretty big and they can stake claims.

I've only heard of 20gal at the /minimum/ of being successful with doing this.

They'll need tons of hiding spots, which means tons of foliage.

What don't you like about dividers?

It would be extremely risky, but it is possible. TONS (And I mean it) TONS of plants and rocks. It'd be costly.

a tank that size is suitable for a sorority (5+ FEmale bettas) but 2 male bettas, definatly not. they will kill eachother for sure.

If you are new to bettas though, i would not recommend a sorority either. Things can go bad with them for even the most experienced betta-keeper.

If i were you I'd just get one betta and let him have that as his huge awesome tank :)

You could get other fish, too, to have in there with your betta (cories, ect.) and have it as a community tank.... but terriotory or not, 2 males, cannot happen.

I wouldn't advise it...they will find eachother at some point and it probably won't go well.

There's a great sticky here somewhere for DIY dividers...or purchase some. even one at a time and add more boys as you can afford the dividers(if money is an issue).

In my experience I would never put two males together, ever, unless you want to use dividers for individual compartments. Using dividers would be the best way to house multiple male bettas provided that you take precautions to properly glue the dividers down.

A sorority of seven to nine female bettas is perfect for a 20 long, but they take time and patience. If you're a betta/aquarium novice you might want to research before attempting a sorority since females can be as aggressive as males (if not more!). A sorority is wonderful though, and well worth the effort.

Ive actually heard of males, yes males, in a tank together at that size. Ive also heard of a successful male/female pair (not breeding) in the same (their owner is a member here).
I wouldnt advise it, no, but its not impossible..

if you tried it you would need two males from the same spawn that have never been separated even if you used males like that you would still need TONS of hiding places and even that can go wrong and even with this set up most likely will

The reccomendation is 3 feet of distance between male bettas...that's a big tank even for just two...also bettas like exploring so they'll run into each other eventually.

I think you're better off doing a sorority.
