Ummm...also, could an extremely paranoid person (me) mistake sleeping for swim bladder?

I have heard many people use spring water. That should be fine. Actually I think it is better than distilled.

You've been using distilled water?! Distilled water is bad for fish in the long term since there's literally NOTHING in it and fish need minerals from water. Spring water is fine (so is tap water), as long as you put water conditioner in it.

Bettas sleep just like any other animal.
With swim bladder disease, it will look like the fish is being weighed down in his "butt" area. Or, being unable to stop floating, like he is filled with air. Plus, normally with SBD, your Betta will look bloated right behind his head (looking like he swallowed a marble). Which is where his stomache is.
If he is just laying there, but gets up and swims away. Then he is just resting.
