My 5 gal is an imposter...of a 6gal! :D

Im pretty perplexed by this, so any imput is welcome and appreciated :P

My tank is a Marineland "5 gallon hex", and says that its 5 gallons.
However, when I was measuring to test what my bioload was, the measurements say differently! Even when I undercut my measurements via a ruler and measure only to the waterline its 6+ gallons! How weird.
I did the volume via a hexagonal prism, even! lol!

I wanted to make sure that it wasnt just my measurements that were off, so I measured by fluids with a control by using a one gallon container, and sure enough! It fits 6+ or so. It even NEEDS to be filled to that height for the filter to work! Hmm..

VERY confused @_@?! (But no complaints! lol!) I got it at my local Petsmart, and it seemed a little strange to me when I opened it that it was almost too big for the box. Maybe a mispackage? LOL! :P

Anyone else have this happen/have any thoughts?

I know! Even under my most conservative measures, its 5.5gallons, and under my least (normal measurements) its like 6.5 :B

One possible explanation:

One imperial gallon is approximately equal to 1.201 U.S. gallons.

Presto, a six gallon five gallon tank

Better to find out that its a 6 gallon then to do that test and see its only 4.

I like that imperial gallon explanation. Makes sense to me!

Possibly, though both what I use to measure as well as what the box claims is a Us gallon..
