New Female Doubletail & Big Color Change

Came back from a locally owned fish-store... and wow, was I ever impressed by their tanks. Both saltwater and freshwater, and fish I haven't even seen in Big Al's or any other specialty chain-store (though yes, I am aware that locally owned pet/fish stores can get in special orders. But these fish were absolutely stunning!) Their bettas were in excellent conditions, crystal clear water, some of them even in five gallons.

So I chose this little girl out, who was living in a Fluval Chi with a few amano shrimps. Didn't manage to get a "before" pic of her, but she was this solid yellow (pic below) with some very thick irridescence on her body-

And within maybe 8 minutes of being on a stable surface (she was still in her bag) she turned red (grizzle, maybe?) cambodian- which I'm really not fond of, but she's such a cutie. Lovely color on her, but I've never had such a dramatic color change within that small amount of time! I'm curious to see how she'll turn out. I like the form of her body and her fins, so hopefully when the breeder comes in March I'll be able to find a suitable male for her... preferably a PK or HM.

Sorry for all the babbling- here she is! Sorry for the size/quality of the pics.

Aw, she's still cute! Maybe her colors will get stronger and even out once she's been in the tank settled for a while.

Sucks how she switched on you like that, though! Haha!

Thank you :) I kind of wish she had stayed yellow, though XD

And it turns out she has gill parasites. Bleh.

Gill parasites??! Ew!

Maybe the store will give you a refund for selling you a sick fish? Or at least help you pay for the medication? :/

It's really no big deal- I've treated other bettas for it so many times, and it's pretty easy to treat as well- just means a bit more work. Not too happy about it though.

Definitely not returning her, however- she was the only nice one left and they got them in as a special order for me. :P

I'm always stocked up on medication anyway. XD I don't think they're too severe, so hopefully she'll be good when the middle of March comes.

Aww! Shes so cute. it happened to mine aswell- I bought a supposedly gold betta, and she was amazing. i brought her home, and got her in some warm water- turned red almost instantly. i was a little dissapointed, but also a real cutie :)

LOL.. it's funny when that happens. General Lee what almost pure white when he was rescued (not by me) and when I adopted him he was this gorgeous pale gold/blue and now he's blue/red. He's definitely not a marble either.. he was just coloring up.

He also was supposed to be a female but I quickly learned that wasn't the case haha.
