Will a snail be a good idea for small tank with live plants?

I have my betta in a smaller tank with live plants. Is a snail a good idea to help keep the tank clean?

Snails create more waste than they help clean. Unless the tank is at least 5 gallons, I wouldn't put anything but the Betta and some ghost shrimp in it. Snails poop a LOT. They won't help keep your tank clean.

How small is small?

Critters aren't necessary to keep the tank clean. That's pretty much your job. If you have the right size tank and want another creature friend, then sure...snails are great.
They are messy creatures though, and some don't actually do much to 'clean the tank'.

So..depending on your tank, a snail would be a fun addition but not something you can rely on to improve the water quality in the tank.

:)

I guess I'm just worried about the plant matter that dies, if the snail would help keep that in check. I didn't think about shrimp, would the betta mess with them? Its a male. I think the tank is 2 gal.

The shrimp should be fine with the male. But you should take care of removing dead plant matter yourself. It will keep things cleaner.

Okay thanks!! I've never had live plants before, but he really seems to enjoy them.
