Exclamation What the heck is this stuff?!?!?!?!

I was cleaning Mandala's tank today, and well, my siphoner sucked up what looked like black rocks. About the size of a baby snail. I then went to empty out the white bucket that the dirty tank water was in and the "little black rocks" did not fall into the drain with the tank water. So, I reached my hand in there to pick one up and...it turned to goo! It smeared on the bottom of the bucket and my fingers.
What is this stuff? Could it be hurting Mandala?! He has started biting his tail again recently but he does not seem weird other than that.
It was running but pastey, like drying blood or something. But way to big to be blood if it had came from Mandala, as he most likely would be dead.
Please Help!

It really just looks like dirt to me... but I'm wondering how it could've gotten in there.

I'm sorry I can't be of any further help, but that's very wierd!

Also, I have not added anything new to his tank since putting in that blue mug like, a month ago.

And I also cleaned everyone else's tanks and they do not have that stuff.

Maybe it WAS a baby snail? Do you have snails in his tank?

I have nothing in his tank that could make that. All he has is three silk plants and a blue coffee mug for a cave.

And I think it was too big to be poop, it was about the size of his head.

Okay, this is sorta odd..
I have stuff in my (super improv homemmade..) baffle. Its manifested on the plastic mesh where the water gushes down from, and isnt from the baffle itself..
Its blackish like yours, and when I touched it it was gooey and bleghhh D;

Maybe its some sorta odd colony of bacteria? :c Thats what I think mine is..eww >w<
