never thought i'd get another white HMPK...

but, i did. today, in fact. went to the pet store, originally to get some frozen foods and a 10 gallon to divide between Lulu and Chappy. but, they were out of frozen bloodworms, and didn't have any dividers. x-X i'll go back, hopefully sometime this week, because the 2.5 KK i got is cracked. x-X at the bottom, too!

but, they keep the more interesting bettas up front, in the divided hex-things(without the dividers, so each betta gets .5 gallons to himself). the little guy was just sitting there, looking cute. he'd been there a week, and i knew no one would take him home, because he's not "fancy" like the VTs or the marble halfmoon they have.

he's alot bigger than my late white HMPK was. almost twice Weiss' size! i noticed a white speck in one of his eyes, too, so that bothers me a bit. what really bothers me, though, is his scales, and his gills. D:

near his head, his scales look very thick. it's hard to explain, but it just looks alot thicker there, and more.... of an almost chalky white, i guess would be the best way to describe them. it's nothing major, since you have to get up close to see it, but it bothers me a bit. i'd heard that bettas with random white patches like this, could develop tumors there. D:

now, his gills. :/ they're weird. when he goes up for air, he takes three gulps, and extends his gills all the way out, like he's flaring at the air, almost. i.... don't think that's normal, is it? D: he also "yawns" alot. opens his mouth up all the way, randomly. D: is that normal? i've had bettas yawn before, but never as much as this new little guy(who still doesn't have a name yet. i've been calling him "Mr. Fishy", but that won't stick. xD). maybe it's just New Fish Jitters, since i tend to freak out about EVERYTHING when i get a new betta. x3c

i'll hopefully have pics soon. :3 he's a pretty boy. hasn't flared yet, even at Lulu(who seemed VERY masculine while flaring at him. xD). i adore him already. it's not like "he's a new Weiss!", cause he's not. i don't even see him as a replacement for Weiss in any way, in fact. he's just a new pretty betta i have. :3

Congrats on the new boy... It sounds like he has parasites in his gills... Go to betta slave for help with that, she'd know if anything is wrong with him and how to treat the parasites.

thanks. x-X i think he may also be at least partly blind. it takes him a while to recognize simple things, like another betta flaring at him or even food. o.o

Poor guy! New and stuff and already sick, but now he's got a nice, clean, warm home to heal in and you who can take good care of him.
I hope he recovers soon, he sound's pretty, pic's soon pls *lol*

aaaaww... i cupped him and took out the pretty dark green rocks out of his tank(a temp 1 gallon until i can get back up to the pet store and get a new, not cracked 2.5 KK). he didn't really run from the cup like most of mine do(another thing that makes me think he's at least partly blind). i left the water in, cause it's clean water, and didn't scoop out the sunken pellets. he just found some of them, and is nomming them up. <3

i named him Theodore. Theo, for short. he'll flare at his reflection, but it takes him a bit. he's gotta look at himself with both eyes, then figure out if he's gonna flare or not.

well, he's not doing the head-shakey-thing after i added the salt, so that's good. he also doesn't yawn anymore. i'm hoping to get pics today of him, and i'm gonna try to go tomorrow to return the cracked KK i got for him and get a new, not-cracked one, maybe even a cave or something. might do bare-bottom for his tank, cause he likes to nose about, searching for food. :d
