If you havent even owned bettas, its really not good to get a female sorority right away. Start out keeping 1 male or 1 female first, so you can get a feel for their behaviors first. Sororities are very challenging, and 80% of them dont work out because of the aggressive females. Some sororities do work out, but thats pure luck :) Also, a tank wont cycle for one week, it takes several weeks with you adding ammonia yourself. You should look up the Nitrogen Cycle, theres a sticky on the forum somewhere about it :D

Agreed. If you haven't kept bettas before, don't start out with a sorority- they're pretty challenging. And it's great always do research a month or so in advance...

+1..

Sororities are a difficult thing to keep. Although they're worth the trouble, it's definitely something for the more experienced betta keepers that know how the betta brain works. I take it since you have so many tanks you've got a feel for fish diseases, and how to treat injuries, because that's something you're going to have to deal with when you first start yours. There are special ways to do certain things with bettas that you wouldn't normally do with a community tank (like introducing them all into the sorority for the first time, introducing new fish, how much plant cover you'll need, learning how to break up the serious fights, and hold yourself back from breaking up the petty ones, learning the pecking order of your tank, etc, etc, etc.)... There are plenty of members on this forum as well as others that currently keep betta sororities in proper conditions, and we'd be more than happy to help you out with any of these topics... I still do strongly recommend you get your first betta get to know him/her before you get 6 more. :)

yes sorority's are extremely hard, and expensive!! I currently have one now with 6 females, 3 corys and 2 snails in a 20gal. I have over a hundred dollars worth of plants and hides, the tank looks a lot like a jungle with its mix of plastic, silk and live plants. However, it worked out because there are SOOOOOOO many places to hide and get away from the other girls. If you ever want to start a sorority latter once you know more about bettas. Know that you need to watch them everyday for at least 10-20mins. Watch how they interact and if you see any bullying, then remove the mean female. Also certain girls tend to be mega food hogs and tend to jack all the food before others can get it.

Sororities are hard, i've been keeping bettas for 3 years and know a crap ton about them, but even this is hard to me. Most defiantly not for a beginner.

I feel so lucky that mine is relatively peaceful now. I had one bully, but she's since chilled out. Like I don't even see a pecking order anymore, they're just friendly. It's nice. :)

Just get a teeny tiny container of some sort, scoop up a bit of tank water, drop the pellets in, go do something else, and by the time your back (5-15 mins) they should be good to feed to your girl. when you finish feeding her the pellets just dump the tank water you took out back in. :) Do you have a heater for the 1.5?
