He is. He's been much more energetic after I started following OLF's advice and has started blowing bubbles again and flaring up at his reflection in the plastic. He attacked a bloodworm last night, so that's good too. ^_^

I actually got some good ones last night. His color is still super dull, but he looks a lot perkier. Btw, do male bettas normall have a dark horizontal stripe? I mean, is that a common pattern? Or is that a worrisome thing?

it could either be stress or his markings. You can tell by how he is acting. I am sure he was stressed out by what he went through and maybe he is slowly getting over it so the stripe will fade....wait till a more experience person chimes in

Its not his markings, that's a stress stripe.
Btw- dont worry about him being picky about food. If he's hungry (and I mean when he's well), he will eat. They can go for quite a time without noms.
Id stick to pellets, try presoaking them for like 5 minutes before you put them in!
