I went to Petco today to get some bird toys for my soon-to-be sun conure, and I had to look at the bettas. My Petco usually has pretty nice ones. Not usually any true HMs, but double tails mislabled. They have some nice plakats and some cute females and once in a while, a stunning crowntail.
I have exceeded my self-imposed limit of 4 bettas with a HM, a crowntail, a double tail HM, and 3 VTs. I've also got 4 platys and 23 platy fry that I'm going to find homes for. So, I was set on no more fish. That is, until I saw him.
Now, I can (and have) said no to pretty fish. Cause I can't have them all. I usually have restraint when it comes to bettas. (I know I'm over the limit, but that was different since a divided tank failed to work for me and my limit was higher with the divided tank.)
He's a gorgeous copper butterfly HM. I picked him up and stared. I took a pic on my phone. I put him down. I started to walk away. I turned around. I picked him up. I picked out my bird toys. And yes, I bought him.
He is currently acclimating in my 10 gallon platy tank. If he doesn't work out with those tankmates, another one of my boys will. I will keep an eye on him and do have a backup plan.
Without any more adieu, here he is, Impulse-
