To the rescue!

Went to wal-mart today to get some kitty litter. As I headed past the fish section I did a double take as I noticed they had bettas. My wal-mart recently remodeled their store and I was so happy to see that they did away with their fish tanks. Well I guess bettas don't count cuz sitting there on the shelf was about 8 cups full of the most pitiful looking bettas I've ever seen. They were all sitting in about an inch of dirty brown water. Some of them had swim bladder and were floating on their sides and a couple were dead. I looked around for someone to announce my disgust to but no employees were in the area. I probably had the look of death on my face and they all cleared out . So I decided to take things into my own hands. I grabbed a gallon of spring water and a trash can and started pouring all the dirty water out of the cups and replacing it with clean spring water. I know it will only help for a couple days but at least I can sleep knowing those poor little bettas are in fresh water tonight. Next time I will be paying the manager a little visit.

The walmart near my house takes better care of their bettas than the petco near me.(recently anyways) which is really pathetic considering they have everything they need to properly take care of a betta in their store. I believe it is because they dont buy in such a large number as the petco here. there is always 20+ dead/half dead bettas by the end of the week at that petco.

The walmart closest to me actually provides a heat lamp for them.( not the best, but it is better than nothing)

you did a good thing but I think what you did is technically illegal. I think it would be considered stealing if you just took a gallon of spring water and cleaned their cups.

Thanks everyone. I just couldn't stand to see them in that nasty water.

BettaManiac- I paid for the water. The look on the cashiers face was priceless when I handed her an empty gallon jug.
