Angry Gah! No! Tail Biting HM!!! >.<

My pretty orange HM started tail biting. I am not sure why cause he always has something to do. I did take his mirror backing off his side of the tank to see if that would help. Maybe he was just overly frustrated?

Here is a pic of his self damage D:

I almost caught my boy tail biting during feeding. Male betta's with long fins are not the most graceful of swimmers. There was a pellet that happened to swing to his backside. As he clumsily maneuvered himself 360 degrees to get to the pellet his rare tail was still at the opposite end of him. He nearly missed taking a chunk of his rear tail when he lunged for the pellet.

Lol! Well Blueberry got downgraded from a 5 gallon in my bedroom to a 1 gallon in a higher traffic area (kitchen) because of his tail bitting so maybe he will learn that he gets more room if he behaves himself! My CT Pat benefited from it though and now has a 5 gallon instead of a 1 gallon. Pat had too much energy for the 1 gallon anyway. He flung himself out of it 2 days ago when I reached in to borrow the thermometer. Scared me half to death. He seems perfectly fine though.

I've got a VT (Boba) that's a tail-biter. He used to just take chomps out of it when it got to a certain length. I checked on him today and it seems like he's increasing the frequency of the bites. I used half-strength Melafix to encourage new growth. I'm going to try to turn the filter output so it doesn't put as much of a current in the tank.

So its not getting much better. His tail is half gone. Its there anything I can do to distract him from chewing on himself?

Hmmm... bettas love distractions and exploring... I say give him something to watch or do, and maybe add some new decorations, or rearrange things diffterently every single day. :)

ugh what a pain....but I'll give it a shot. He seem to rather eat than explore.
