Defective Heater?

I purchased this little heater at Petco a while ago. It claims that it keeps water temperature at a stable 78 degrees, and all you have to do is to plug it in. I myself checked the temp of my water, and it is at 70 degrees, sometimes lowering to 68.....
Does anyone else use this type of heater? If so, have you guys had any issues with it?

I have not had that heater but I have had a few that say they heat up to 78 but if you read the fine print on them it says they will heat it 4 deg. hotter then the air temp so if your air temp is 68 it will heat up to 70. I have now picked up adjustable heater and use them as heaters for my aged water

Yep, what Slayers said is what most if not all I would suspect say on their fine print. I had a non-adjustable Tetra that claimed up to 78 but the fine print says only 7 degrees above ambient. We do not run our heater in the winter most of the time so it is lucky to hit 75 sometimes in here in the daytime.

i dislike their 78 degrees claim. my apt is kept at 65 degrees, so they only heated to 72-74

Well, trying to hone in on an accurate temperature on an adjustable can be a chore too. I have had a new True Aqua now on day two and just now figured out the 76 = 80. LOL

I purchased a new one that I can actually feel the heat coming off of :3
I'll keep the other one from Petco as a backup, but it just didn't make the water warm enough. Yomi definetly needs warmth because he has Fin Rot.

And they should really be more specific in their fine print. I purchased that thinking it would keep it at 78, and it did not.

Now that you've bought it you should go on to petco's website and write a review that way people will know not to get it unless their houses are warm.

I have a few of those I use as backups but it's true they don't heat effectively. I have to turn my airconditioning off to get it to the right temp
