Okay and one last question. Is there anything else I can do to aid in his recovery? Aside from salt and the leaves.

Clean water. All three will do sufficient job. And feed him nutritious foods. Bloodworms, bits of shrimps, commercial foods, daphnia, mosquito larva and anything else meaty you can get.
