Tail Biter!

My friend's fish, Waffles(lol), is a definite tail biter. She told me that random chunks of his fins were missing and I couldn't figure out why. She has safe plants and decor... And then we saw the problem! In between watching tv we both happened to look at his tank and saw him twirling around like an idiot biting his tail then jetting off to the other side of the tank! It was awful. I tapped on the glass to get him to stop, but he'd just start doing it again..

Out of my 8 bettas, I've never had a tail I don't know how to handle it. Is their any way to help break their bad habit? Should she make his environment more interesting or something? Is he just bored? I don't get it. lol
