Question 2 liter fry containers

So, the most... well, the SECOND most expensive part in breeding is the containers for males. You need 100+, I believe (Hey, part of the spawn will be female and can be kept together!)

Well, my family are HUGE time soda drinkers. Like, they go through anywhere between 6... and 36 cans a week. Well, someone at IBC reccomended maybe trying 2 liter soda bottles for the males. I was wondering if it would work? I mean, after they've been cleaned out and stuff. If I use them I plan on doing every other day 100% (Don't wanna do daily 100% with all those fry lol but is that enough?) And I also plan on making them a lot easier to clean.

I was thinking of cutting off the top and flipping it inward. That way I'll have a lid (partially plugged up hole if neccessary) and airhole. Plus when I do water changes, I can just pull off the top, dump the whole thing in a clean 5 gal bucket, wipe it, fill it in another 5 gallon bucket, net the male, and get started on the next one (treated water of course).

Oh, in case it wasn't obvious, I plan on removing the label and cap. I made a little diagram of what I'm planning to do with the lid on paint.... will it work? (Note: I live in Hawaii and will be spawning in the summer)

cute drawing - are you expecting yellow fry?

lots of people use 2 L soda bottles and with your climate and frequent water changes I think you'll do fine

Ok, that's good! But I'm also wondering if my water changes are frequent enough?

And also, yep. I'll actually trying for asymmetrical yellow marble HMPK's but it's harder to draw it in paint L0L. (Yes people I know it wont be pure marble ^.^)

100% every other day sounds ok IMO so long as on your days off you still suck up any waste or uneaten food.

what are you feeding?

Well at that age probably a mixture of frozen bloodworms/myseis shrimp (spelling) pellets and microworms. Depends on the size of the fry, but at one month they shouldn't need microworms really.

I use a 2L drink bottle, cut in half. 50 - 100% wc every 1 - 2 days, depending on water condition/food/poo.

I love that idea. I had planned to do it myself but because the shelving unit I have is wire the bottles don't sit right and I'm too scared they'll topple over so I'm sticking with flat bottomed container.
