5gal community tank?

I just bought a 5 gallon fluval chi tank, and I want to set up a small community in it. (:

I was thinking the betta + tetra combination with these things:

-1 female betta
-phantom tetras
-bleeding heart tetras



Some questions I have are:

1. I've seen plenty of things about male betta compatibility with other fish but nothing about females. So how does their compatibility measure?

2. How many of each of the tetras should I put in?

3. Any suggestions on other unique/different types of tetras? I already have neons and danios in another tank so I'm looking for something new. ;)

OH! And I was also thinking about adding an African Dwarf Frog.

That's WAY too much. You can only have one fish (the Betta) in there and maybe a snail and ghost shrimp anything else would be over stocking.

5 gallons isnt really adequate to house multiple fish. You can have snails/shrimp though.

Even so, I am curious to know the answer to the female compatibility question. I've been looking around and was just about to post a questiono thread. Though mine would be a 10 gal

I guess I worded it wrong. I mean like... with males you can't really have flashy tailed fish (though each fish is different). Do females handle flashy tails better then males? I guess that's really what I was going at haha

That's a great question....and I feel like you're probably going to have totally different responses.

From my personal expierence, I bought two female bettas together and had them in a 5 gal....switched them to a 10 gal and tried to add a third female Betta. They were very aggressive with her. So to answer your question if adding another betta could be a problem, yes other similar species could cause a problem. Even the dopes at the pet store will tell you that.

BUT, I have heard from owners that have males together, multiple females, males and females, bettas with other similar species. I think it depends on the amount of space, coverage, tank conditions, and what your fish's attitude, if you will, is like.

Female bettas can live together but you need more than I believe 4? Keeping a group of females is called a sorority and they will attack eachother but that is their way of setting up ranks.
But like everyone else said you shouldn't add that many fish in something like the 5gal fluval chi!

Oh no. Sorry should have clarified. Well I did about me and a 10 gal *points way up there*.

But I was thinking about just having one female, in a community tank.
