Heater Placement

So my 10 gallon tank now has 1 betta, 7 Ghost Shrimps, and 3 live plants.
My filter is in the far back left corner and my heater is in the far right. (sorry, pics would be hard to gbet right now...) The heat doesn't seem to be getting around though. The heater is vertical in the far back right corner. Should I turn It on its side (It's submersible)? I can put the hot end closer to the filter to get the water flowing through it warm.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, turning the heater on it's side would help warm the tank better. Also, put it close to the bottom without touching the substrate so the heat will be better dispersed.

Is that the case, even for a five gallon, Shadowsbiker? I'm not having a problem (I don't think!) but my heater is vertical in one corner of my tank. Would it be more effective horizontal closer to the bottom???

Mine are next to my filter. That is where the heat circulates best since the water is moving there. It makes no difference if it is vertical or horizontal. Just put it by the filter.

I have mine near a micro bubbler I have in the back of the tank. I routinely check temps in different places throughout the tank with a digital thermometer I use and it pretty much is even all around. Some heaters I have been told should not go on their side so if you have the instructions still do check.
