In that size of a container and without the added benefit of a filter and nitrogen cycle.....the feeder block may cause his death from toxic water....I would not use a feeder block...he will be fine for 10 days without food...water quality is more important than food.....if you can find live plants especially floating plants like water lettuce or hornwort.....they both will help keep the water safe....

I have a 2.5 minibow tank and found one (sorry I can't remember the name - starts with M but will check when I get home from work) that fits in that nicely and comes with a temp control/thermostat. It was factory set for 76 but can be adjusted with a nice clear thermometer/graph to let you know where you've set it. Shuts itself on/off nicely. The outside of the packages will tell you the size tank for which it can be used. It works for up to 10 gallons but fit nicely in the 2.5 when placed sideways. It cost about $20. Will check on the name and post later.
