Filters with Carbon in them

I was wondering if you had to replace the filters that have carbon in them I have seen others talk about just swishing them in water to clean them up but the carbon don't stay good for ever. Do you really need to replace them or can I just keep the same media in there and just make sure its clean?

Carbon use is more of a personal choice.....you don't have to have it and once it is used up it won't hurt anything being left in the filter...just more surface area for good bacteria to colonize.
