Last year, all of my goldfish died (some that have been with us for ten years!) when the thing that was suppost to keep the pond from freezing broke. So that spring, we picked up eight 3-inch koi (which have now more than doubled in size :D), and were later given two goldfish from my uncle.
I didn't want to name them until I was sure that they would survive the winter... well, yesterday it was warm out and the pond was almost totally thawed. I went down to do some spring maintenance... and found the fish alive! It's a bit early to celebrate since this time of the year they're very susceptible to bacteria... but they aren't going to suffocate, so yay! ^_^
So now it's time to think of names... :) They won't be "official" until the summer though. I'm horribly uncreative when it comes to naming fish (Hense names like "Fluffy"... yes really) so any suggestions would be awesome! ;)
The first four koi... note that the orange and white one (the one at the top in the second image) has since turned black on the top, with a bit of orange and white underneath.
The last three... note that one of the white ones is gone... we found it floating with a giant hole it it's head where it's eye should have been. A bird got it, probably.
And a video! I'd recommend watching without sound because the camera was broken and made an annoying clicking noise. This was taken a few months after the pictures... as you can see, the koi have grown and about half of them hand feed. :D (note that I do not normally feed my fish this much... it was all for the camera lol... also I don't normally have blue nails, it was for a school spirit thing :P)
If you can't tell from the video... the white one is EASILY the friendliest... it was the first to learn to hand-feed and is most trusting of strangers. :) The black one and the orange & black one are also quite friendly and eager to hand feed. For white, orange & black koi, that was actually the first time it hand fed from me, it was awesome, but unusual. I think the white & black one has hand fed a bit, but is very cautious, similar to the white, orange & black one. The white and orange one has never hand fed, but will approach near me. The white one with the markings on the back has never hand fed and is very shy. And, obviously, the two goldfish have never hand fed and always stay a good distance away lol.
Name suggestions, anybody? I was thinking some really pretty Japanese names, but balanced out with some cute/ silly ones as well.
