Question Cycling - what's going on?!

Hey folks,

So my tank has been cycling for about 2 weeks now. I did some tests today and I'm finding the following readings:

Ammonia: 1.0 ppm
Nitrites: 5.0 ppm (highest possible reading)
Nitrates: 160 pmm (highest possible reading)

I did a 90% water change just the other day. What's going on?!

Cycling can definitely be a challenge.

'Are you doing a fish in or fishless cycle?

Are you using a liquid test kit or strips?

I'm doing a fishless cycle - it was started with ACE Hardware ammonia. I'm using the API Freshwater Master Test Kit (liquid).

Thanks!

Good to hear you are using the liquid test kit. They are more accurate. Generally, ammonia spikes and drops, nitrites spike and drop and the nitrates. What are the readings today? Maybe over a few days you'll get a better idea of what your tank is doing. What you want is ammonia and nitrites at zero and visible nitrates. :)
