How big is the tank? What kind of algae eater is it?

I don't know much about mollies but I think they are better off in larger groups, maybe someone else can weigh in on their needs

Five gallons is too small for a betta to be housed with any other fish. All you should do in a 5 gallon is a betta and a snail or maybe some shrimp.

Chinese algae eaters are not appropriate tank mates at all, they get big (way too big for a 5 gallon) and as they get older they become extremely aggressive and will suck the slime coat off the other fish.

Lola covered most of it. Chinese algae eaters get huge, need something like 30+gallons, and will kill fish. They get extremely territorial and agressive as they get older. Chances are though in that size tank it will die from internal problems before it gets old enough to be aggressive as long as it is well fed. Underfed and it will eat the Betta.

Depends on the kind of mollie but in my experience they prefer groups of 3+ and can also be aggressive. Mine ate each other's fins, I can only imagine what they would do to a betta.

Basically right now you've got roughly 40 gallons of fish in a 5 gallon tank. If you get rid of the algae eater that is still 10 gallons which is what the mollies need.

Even if you're NOT sure, don't take a chance.

I'd say move the mollies and Algae eaters to their own tanks. No one's saying you have to be rid of them.
