water conditioner question

From the moment Gershwin arrived, he has bitten his tail. I have been struggle to keep from being stressed out and bored. His tail developed a little fin rot which I started treating with medicine and frequent water changes then moved to salt. The last couple of weeks, I saw a big change in his behavior and regrowth in his tail. About the same time I started adding salt, I changed water conditioners to what came with my tank.

This past water change I ran out of the water conditioner and ended up using his old one. Now his tail is shredded from his biting it. Could it be possible he doesn't like this water conditioner? And can you put too much in there? Sorry if this is a dumb question or has been asked before. I looked for it but couldn't find it.

IMO/E, the best conditioner out there is Prime - just in case you wanted to know! :)

Thanks. I just ordered some. I had to order some of the other water conditioner (nutrafin) so I went ahead and ordered Prime. I read that some people used the Nutrafin along with other conditioners because Nutrafin had an ingredient in it that helps to calm Bettas. I guess that is what made Gershwin less stressed. But they only use a small amount. I will see if it helps my little guy.....

So I have my own question, I have some Tetra and Aqueon conditioners but was also told at one point to buy Prime and I did. Do they basically do the same thing? PS. Prime smells like straight fart unfortunately.

Prime does smell like sulfur straight out of the bottle, but I personally don't notice the smell once it is in the tank.
