Worried if this could be dangerous to my betta girls...

Okay, so I picked up some "Lucky bamboo" from petsmart the other day. I'd been wanting some because I'm incredibly picky about water plants and nowhere around here that I know of sells mosses. Well, it had some black fuzzy stuff on it that when I asked the attendant about, she said it was just black algea. Well... I've been watching it and it's been staying at the level it was at and such... But my otocinclus ignore it and I've noticed a couple of my girls taking nibbles off it... So I did google... And found almost nothing... Is this stuff something I should worry about? Could it hurt my betta girls? I'm incredibly tempted to take the plant out... But idk. What do you guys think?
