Anyone else have an opinion about this deal? I'm going to buy it tomorrow if I get the tank, this way it's still on sale, I just want to make sure for certain it's a good idea, for the purpose of dividing anyway. If I split it into four sections that's like five gallons in each section, it's just a little taller than wider. Its 24" x 13" x 17".

I would go ahead & get the 20 gal. if it were me. Used to have a 20 gal. tall divided in 3 and nobody had any trouble getting to the surface.

IMO, dividing it 3 ways instead of 4 is the way to go since if you divide it by 4, each guy will only have 6 inches. Actually less since the dividers will take up some room. If you divide it in 3, however, they will each have 8 inches (a little less with the dividers).

Definitely get the tank. Bigger for cheaper is always a good thing!!

I wouldn't be comfortable putting that much weight on an IKEA dresser, but I haven't seen yours.
Definitely make sure it can support the weight, long term and that no part of the tank hangs off the dresser.

If I didn't put it on my dresser, where would I put it than? and wouldn't it be better just for me to get a ten gallon if I'm only going to do three sections, for three fish?

Just as a note,a 20 gallon can easily weigh 190 pounds, my 20 gallon weighs 160ish right now with just water, filter, and barely any gravel.

I like the idea of the 20 gallon, but you have to think if you can afford a stand, build one that can support 200lbs, or keep it on the floor.

Good luck!

I just got an empty tank that exact size from my neighbor. In my opinion its a little to tall to divide... It will make a great community though. Its still doable though if you really want to. Just make sure you have something stable to put it on. I wouldnt trust a dresser for that. You REALLY dont want 20 gallons of water on the floor.

My friend's 75 gallon or something like that broke onto his floor... Let's just say the bedroom and hallway has concrete ;)

Yeah, definitely NO to the dresser! I talked to the Home Depot guy for my 20 gallon stand and we're using 4x4s, brackets, plywood, etc. Seriously, you don't want that mess!!

I think if you get a 20 gallon, you should put a sorority in there with some other smaller community fish or a male with a community, something like that. It would be very difficult to divide unless you only filled it up half way or 3/4.

I have my 38 on my dresser, but it takes 3 grown men to carry my dresser, and they still struggle so its all in quality.
