What makes good dividers?

I know you can buy one at Petco and such, but what are some household items or not things you often think of to be dividers??

I recently read about fiber glass, and was going to purchase that at my hardware store, but the worker warned that the machine for it basically just "snaps" the fiber glass and often comes out very shotty. It's one of those things that you use at your own risk due to it cracking and having rough edges, etc.

Let's hear it!(:

I still suggest the ones at the store! Theyre sturdy, can be removed, and if you wanna- you can replace the inside of the divider (mesh) with whatever color you want :B

As for the fiberglass, yeah- thats a problem D: Its an at your own risk thing.

Report binders (or poster binding), and canvas mesh that you use for crafts and needlepoint. Much cheaper and you can find it at wally world.

I was thinking about those folders! I really loved that idea, I thought of it a night or two ago, I actually think one would fit!

^ Just be careful! You should get sealant to do this, because they tend to be unsturdy unless you bury the bottom of the mesh. Once you buy the sealant, its almost as much as the prefab ones.
(Speaking from experience D;)

On the other hand, I built a divider out of said mesh and...well, I couldn't find the right folder thingys, so I threaded plastic chopsticks through the holes...but I liked that mine was moveable. I could pick it up and vacuum the rocks under it, that sort of thing.

I couldn't find the report covers either... I remember them from when I was in elementary but I haven't seen those in stores for years.
I found some white edge trim at Home Depot that worked like a charm with the mesh. I only have one sheet but it will hold 2 layers if you prefer and it's only $2.49 for 8ft of the stuff!

I second the report cover things and craft mesh. I bought a divider from PetSmart and I really don't like it. It's flimsy and see through. The craft mesh works so much better.

I used white Plexiglass from Menards, and drilled holes into them. Like vilmarisv I used a plastic trim with a lip which I siliconed to the sides of the tank and slid the dividers into. That way if one day I get down to one betta, I can take the dividers out and he can have full reign of the 10 gallons.
