I was reading online about what cycling was and I even checked the sticky on the forum...but I just dont seem to understand what it is exactly. I get the gist of it, but what is it exactly and how do you know when it has been cycled. I apologize if I missed a thread going deeper into the subject. I dont mean to flood the forum or anything hahaha

The nitrogen cycle can be confusing......

The short answer.....

Two different convert ammonia to nitrite another converts nitrite to nitrate.....

These bacteria are sticky and adhere to everything in the tank-like the walls, decorations, plants both fake and real, in the top layer of substrate and in the filter media...very little are in the water column....

These bacteria need a surface area, oxygen and food to thrive and colonize.....

You know your cycle is complete when you have nitrate 5-10ppm and 0ppm ammonia/ can take about 4-8 weeks for the nitrogen cycle to establish.....
