This just heats the water of your tank, it has no regulation in temperature to shut itself off when it is too hot. It can get above the temp comfortable to fish, or it may be too weak to hit that target temperature.

I'm not a big fan of those flat heaters, from personal experience, they never got the job done. Like Jackislost said, either too hot or too cold. >.> If you are limited on space or have a small tank the Marineland 10w and the Marina 10w are better options, at least those have a set temp goal.

Oh, well if you're getting a tank that large you'll need a much higher watt heater for a 20-30 gal tank, not one of those little 7.5w. XD A 75w - 100w, can't name any brands off the top of my head though and I think members often recommend the adjustable heaters. And yes, if you divide a 20g by 4, you'll have plenty of space for your little guys.

I have the marina 10w heater, it's looks nice and sleek. It has a target temp but mine always falls just a bit short on the target temp, it always hits 74 give or take 2 degrees. I still like and recommend.
Edit: I have 5 gal tank

If you get a 20g, make it a 20g LONG rather than tall, bettas appreciate horizontal space rather than vertical :)

Hey, Jackislost, I have a 5, too with the same- keep the heater right next to the filter (if you have one) intake, it sucks up the heat and distributes it well. Mine, in a warm room, heats to 86 @__@ (82 in a normal room)
