Drift Wood?

Alrighty, so I am on day 2 of soaking my drift wood to help leach the tannins out and the water still looks like tea. How long have you all had to soak yours before the water clears up?

That depends.....sometimes boiling the wood a couple of times will help release the tannin faster and if you add fresh activated charcoal to the filter it will take the tannins out of the water.....you have to change out the charcoal every 3-4 weeks......a bucket outside with daily 100% water changes for a couple of weeks will usually get the tannins out or at least decreased to the point that it doesn't tan the water to bad.....

Mine sat outside in a rubbermaid tub for two weeks. I changed the water every few days and after it stayed clear I put it in my tank. The water has been crystal clear since.

I boiled mine when I got it then let it soak for about a week and changed the water everyday. It still turns my water brown, but not bad. And it doesn't hurt the fish.
