1.77 gal?

sooo petsmart has there goldfish starter kits on sale for 19.99 but there only 1.77 gallons...BUT they come with a filter so do you think it would be ok for ONE betta?

Yeah that sounds fine. You may have to baffle the filter a bit though.

They are good tanks... nice looking too! I had one myself last year but I gave it away with one of my bettas.
I like the glowfish one for bettas more because it's wider than it is tall.

As for putting a Betta in there, yeah, sure. In a tank that small you could take the filter out all the way if it was too strong. 100% changes are going to be your best bet, IMO. The filter won't make much of a difference.

As long as you keep up on water changes, a 1.77 gallon is perfectly fine for a betta. But a goldfish? What were they thinking?

I guess they just expect someone to get a " feeder fish " and put it in there with the assumption it will die before it gets big enough to need the room. Please dont think for one moment that i support this :( I keep goldfish to and my imported baby i paid 50 dollars for has his own private 29 gallon ( with a cory )

Totally off topic, but....

My son watches Sesame Street and Elmo has a goldfish in a 'goldfish bowl'. It's featured in the show a lot. Drives me insane..lol.

I wasn't judging you at all btw...I think that's a great tank for a Betta :)
It just surprises me how they market some fish stuff. Just horrible.

I have a 2.5 gallon tank made by the same company that makes the tank your talking about and trust me you will have to baffle the filter. Even on the lowest setting it is still pretty powerful (at least the ones in the 2.5 gallon kits are).
