Snails/Shrimps

I'm thinking about adding a few snails or shirmps to my tank 10g of female bettas, what one would be best? I know there are just dozens of diffent types of shrimps and a few snail types, but what kind do you recommend?

Well in a ten gallon you could really do anything. You can do snails and shrimp. I like ramshorn snails and red cherry shrimp. I don't have experience with other shrimp.

Ghost shrimp and amano shrimp are larger and more active. Ghost shrimp are scavengers while amano shrimp are algea eaters. Most other dwarf shrimp (bee, red cherry, crystal red, bumblebee, ninja, tiger, blue pearl, snowball, long nosed shrimp, etc......) are very similar. They stay under 1 inch, breed easily, the babies are born as miniature adults, they like algea and plant matter (they don't eat live plants), and aren't as active as amano and ghost shrimp. Filter Fan shrimps are large (over 3 inches) and filter feed in the current. A great one to buy is the bamboo shrimp. Macrobrachium shrimp will kill all fish, inverts (other shrimp, crayfish, snails) and grow large (sometimes exceeding 2 feet). These are best in large species only tanks.

Thanks ShineyBeta - I'm going to have 4-5 female bettas in my 10g tank. I'd like about 10-12 shrimp, what kind should I add? Also, can they breed in the same 10g tank without me taking out my bettas?

Any tips on snails?

You need at least 5 bettas. You don't have to remove the fish when the shrimp breed, but they will most likely eat the babies.

I would recommend 12 red cherry/blueberry, or 5 amano/ghost or 1 bamboo shrimp. The fish and filter will kill the babies.
