Tank mate help?

Hello everyone!

I have a 5.5 gallon split tank with two females, Drama Queen and Ocean. And a 1.7 gallon tank with my new betta male who is currently unnamed.
I would like to get a tank mate for either tank, but not both. I am guessing the split tank would probably be better. I was thinking about ADFs. Would it be possible to hold ADFs in a 5.5 split gallon tank? Or one in a 1.7?

Could you give me some general information on ADFs? Any information I should know about ADFs from personal experiences? Things employees/ other websites wouldn't normally tell me? I am doing research as well, but I'd appreciate the opinions of people who've had experience with them!

I don't recommend ADF's unless they are in a species only tank. They take forever to find food and are nearly blind. I recommend shrimp. Ghost shrimp should have at least 2.5 gallons. Others are fine in smaller tanks (red cherry, crystal red, tiger, blueberry, etc...)

Really? Huh. I'm pretty sure I saw ADFs in other threads as suggestions, that's where I heard about them actually. Thank you for your opinion. I appreciate it.

Either way, your tanks aren't big enough. The only thing you could do is shrimp or snails.

When I went to this website, which was reccomended by another member and put my information in, in said that I had enough room.
How much room would I normally need? All the information I have been reading says that a AFD needs 1 gallon of space. A betta needs 1 gallon of space as well (thats the low minimum, I know some people say they need at least 2.5 gallons). 1+1=2 Each side of my tank is 2.75 gallons. I think thats enough room for them?

Yes but they would be together, not separate, so they require more room. Honestly the smallest thing I would put an ADF in with a betta is five gallons, because it is not recommended that ADFs are kept alone.

What if I moved Drama Queen out of the 5.5 gallon into her own tank and put Ocean with two ADFs? Would that work?

Yeah that would work. Just keep in mind that ADFs are blind and need the food to be put directly in front of their faces basically and that your betta may be aggressive towards them so you should have a plan b.
