Is this normal betta behavior??

I'm a worry wart and I always think something is wrong. I just want to make sure that he is ok.

His tank is about 79-82 degrees. He swims around whenever I'm looking at his tank, and he likes to follow my finger. But when I'm not "interacting" with him he just sinks down to the rocks and wedges himself between them (I have big natural looking rocks in the tank, not gravel). Sometimes he lays vertical. :/ but like I said if I go up to the tank he perks right up.

Thanks!

Um. No.

No, I dont think that's normal. o__o; What are the params of your tank? He might be lethargic and not feeling well because something is wrong like too much ammonia, etc. If you dont know these, what is the tank size and how frequent are the changes?

Many bettas, even if theres something wrong with them or the tank, love to play so much they'll force themselves up to play.

You have a 1.5gallon, right? Filtered constantly, you need to do two 50% changes a week. If you dont, then the ammonia may be the culprit for this odd behavior and for his lethargy.

A live plant(s) would help too, like Java moss. :)

You're welcome. Make sure the changes are frequent enough and that you properly acclimate him by bobbing him in his cup with the old water, adding about a tbsp of new,conditioned water in every 5 mins for at least 15minutes- 25 being better. Then, place him back in, taking care to get as little of the old water in as you can C;

Ok, I did the water change. He's swimming around more, but he still goes to that corner and tries to wiggle himself in between the rocks. :/ Maybe he just likes the rocks? Because other than that, he's back to normal.

Id cover that space up...He might hurt himself.

Though, he might be trying to hide. My friends did that when he was frightened. It may not look like hes scared, but he could be. Try adding a terracotta pot (with the hole in the bottom covered or filled..) or add a clean mug or cup to see if he stops once you fill that space is..

Alrighty! I live in a dorm so there's always people in and out. I have a cave in his tank, but it's kind of small so I'll try to put something bigger in there for him! I wanna make him happy! :)
