Banana = Plantain leaf??

I feel so dumb asking this question having grown up with these in my back yard...
There are tons of different banana species but I was wondering is only what we all know in the US as banana (sweet or yellow banana) is the acceptable one for bettas?
A friend of the family brought me some over from his backyard here in Texas but by the smell of the leaves I'm pretty sure they are Plantains (male or green banana). He didn't understand the difference because he doesn't use the fruit so he couldn't tell me and since they are dry I cannot tell by the shape of them.
Thanks in advance!

Kind of a bump.... I'm wondering this, too. We have 8 plantain trees in the yard, lol.
