Algae

My filter cartridge is starting to grow some algae. I want a new one, but I'm curious why its bad for your tank? Also, i need the answer for my dad :) hahaha

I think that algae is bad for an aquarium because it can mess up the cycle a bit from chemicals, and it just looks bad. I'd just switch out the cartridge or rinse it really well if you can't get a new one for a while. But, rinsing it does ruin the good bacteria that grow on the cartridge... confusing.
