Is it ok to change a filter cartridge in an uncycled tank? Had to give my filter a good rinse, the cartridge is pretty dirty. Is it ok to put a new one in? I just rinsed my filter and still have the old tank water from the partial water change I just did.
sounds like your right on track. If your tank uncycled i would not change the cartridge for a new one just rinse the one your using. Otherwise you are throwing away the biofilter you are trying to cultivate. Posted via Mobile Device
I rinsed all the filter media and the filter itself, water is still trickling out, not as much as before but still doing it. Cartridge was pretty dirty, I cleaned it as best as I could. It'll have to do till the darn tank cycles. lol. Been 6 weeks now. Thank for your help. =)
If you are six weeks and using the original cart then it might be ok/time for a new one. Does your filter have adjustible feet( is it seated level). Is it a fishless cycle? If so you can float the old pad and not loose the bacteria on it. If you gots fish than chances are you are due a cart change. Happy to help! Posted via Mobile Device
It's a fish in cycle with the guy in my avatar. =) I will go pick up a new cartridge tomorrow. The extra one that came with my tank starter kit doesn't fit.. -_-
Going to go buy a new cartridge tomorrow. My boy is doing great thru the whole 6 weeks of cycling. He's so energetic and always asking me for food when I come over to see him. =)
Cool beans. It sounds like your ahead of the game. Just remember that we take care of water so we can care for our fish. Best of luck. Posted via Mobile Device
