Really freaked out the heater is heating the tank too high!

It was going from 80 to slowly creeping to ninty. I've unplugged the heater and plan to keep it off for an hour or so. I reacted on instinct because he was acting so hyper in it. I read once that if the water is too cold they'll be lethargic and too warm and they'll be too hyper.

I don't want to lose Akira! Please someone help me!

EDIT: It dropped to 81 and my mom had me switch heaters from the other tank.

can u lower the temp its set at a few degrees sounds like the thermostats going in it. 90% of the time when a heater fails it sticks on IE hits the temp and wont auto turn off.

Unfortunatly it's a heater pre-set to 78. I unplugged it and switched it with another heater and he's doing okay...I'm just now wondering if I fed him too many pellets to help him keep off the stress...

The Marina 10 watt heater. It's the submersible mini one.

I'll talk to my mom about it. He's really used to the water being as warm as it is now and the temp after twelve minutes dropped to 81 so I'm really afraid to switch it again since I can't read the termomitor too well.

That heater overheated my 2.5 gallon tanks too. In fact, so did the hydor mini. I replaced them with adjustable heaters, and now I use the Marineland preset to heat my water change water (which only sits out for a day). I highly recommend an adjustable heater if you're able to get one. Presets are so unreliable.

I don't know what size tank you have, but I have the 25 watt adjustable Marineland and the 25 watt adjustable Hagen (it's only around 10.00 dollars on Amazon!) for my 2.5 gallon tanks, they have been working amazingly so far.

If you want to get an adjustable reliable new heater, Hagen is the best, IMO. Works fabulously!
