Filters and Bubblenests?

Hey everyone! I recently got filters for both of my 2.5 gallon tanks. They are rated up to 5 gallons and are the stick-to-the-side-of-the aquarium kind, I BELIEVE they are called Stingray filters, or something of the sort. ANYWAYS. Since installing them I have noticed that Titan and Nova have become a lot more active - they have also stopped building bubble nests. Is this because the current is too strong to let it hold? Should I turn off the filters over night or anything like that?

Simple solution to this! :) Get a styrofoam cup and cut it in half horizontally. Tape it to one side of the tank and VOILA! They now have a little area to block the current on the surface for their nests :D

Thank you! I was trying to figure out what to do about it. Before I had the filters they both made nests like crazy, but I had to do way too many water changes (in MY opinion LOL). Now the filters are seriously helping keep the tank clean and they both love to play in the current but they can't nest! I was getting so frustrated watching them try and fail. =( I'll definitely try the styrofoam cup thingy. Thanks a lot!

No problem! :) My little guy has never been a nest builder, but he blows bubbles every now and then so I put the cup in his tank. They might take quite the liking to it! I read it helps simulate in the wild because they like to build nests under leaves or something.

Awesome - now all I have to do is find somewhere that still sells styrofoam.

Or sticking a little bubble wrap in there will provide him something to build under

I was also told you can make a ring using airline tubing (from your local LFS).
