Four ray crowntail breeding

So I saw the thread with the four ray crowntails and now I'm jealous . I've been wanting to make my own line of bettas from pet store fish for a while but I haven't done anything yet because I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted, but now I definitely want to breed 4 ray crowntails. So I'm asking the experts! I have a male who has some 4 ray branches but his fins are pretty messy and unorganized and I have a male with double and single branches that are really nice, which should I use if I want to get 4 rays? I was thinking I should use the male with the messy fins and breed him with a female who has double rays that are balanced. What do you think?

(PS- I know I will have to cull and provide space and homes for the fry etc.)

I would look into the CT standards more. When it comes to CT ray branching isn't really what is desired but more how the rays are put together and the webbing. Both of the fish you posted have very thin rays which really aren't desired, rather you want thick rays that look like they can stand up.

What you want to breed for is called DDR or "double double ray", meaning 4 ray branches. To get this your best bet is to start with a DDR pair or at least one DDR fish and one DR fish.

Here's a picture of a really nice CT.
