Hmmm How long have you had bettas? are these your first?
May I enquire as to how old you are? Breeding bettas is MUCH more complex then just sticking them in together.
Can you rehome 300 or more fish? can you afford time and money to raise them and house them for SIX MONTHS?

Also the containers your breeding pair are in are rather small are they heated

I am 21 years old and have kept fish (mainly larger oddballs) since i could walk. Ive always had bettas. Ive had them breed 3 maybe 4 times, i use 55g for growout and i know how to setup the breeding tank. Im not even conditioning them yet, i just got these guys in the mail a couple weeks ago. No the 'tank' isnt heated, its about three gallons and we have the ac shut off in that room it stays at or above 75f.

well at least you got a good idea, we have had one person on here that tossed their pair together so horrid that it didnt work out for them and out of the two pair both ladies i think died

They are lovely! Im getting a pair of super red plakats in the next couple of weeks, coming in from Thailand, I love the reds! Bettas do, ideally, need heaters. They are tropical fish and 75 degrees just isn't warm enough, especially since the temperature of the water is always a degree or 2 lower then the temperature of the air. Low temperatures can cause bettas to act lethargic and can compromise their immune system leaving them more susceptible to disease. Also higher temperatures promote spawning behavior so conditioning breeding pair in water thats between 80-82 degrees F is ideal

your right, im working on getting a ten gallon this week. i love the reds to, my favorite and the female has dark red speckles which are hard to see in the pics. What would the babies look like when i do breed these guys you think? are they good breeding quality in your opinion?

Also in another topic some are saying these are HM plakats, what do you guys think...?

He's definitely a plakat, but I believe he's a traditional plakat, a halfmoon plakat would have straight caudal edges and a 180 degree or more tail span.
