pH too high?

I am cycling my 5.5g tank and everything is going good except my pH is staying around 8/8.2 and I'm not sure what to do about it. Is there some way to lower it?

Bettas are hardy fish that will adapt to a wide range of pH; mine is also around 8.0-8.2 and I've never had a problem with any of my fish (even ones more sensitive than bettas). Using chemicals to alter pH can result in a fluctuating pH, which is much more dangerous than it being on the high side.

I agree with LolaQuigs, playing with water chemistry is not a good idea. Do you currently have any bettas or you cycling the tank for your first betta friend?

I am cycling the tank before my betta arrives, I am very determined not to screw this up. Thanks for the advice, that is one less thing to worry about.
