Wont flare?!?!?!

my new betta, got it last Thursday, wont flare when placed a mirror in front of him.
he sometimes flares at my finger, but never at the mirror.

i just did a 50% water change yesterday and then he did not even eat his food for half hour and was very lethargic...
but later gained his pace...
his colour has also faded quit a bit!!!

should i be worried???

I wouldn't be worried. Just make sure he is eating regularly and try to keep him on a schedule. I try to feed all of mine in the morning between 10am-12pm. They may not want to eat a lot if you feed them inconsistently at various times. Sometimes I won't remember to feed them if I am running late for school and won't get to them until night time so the next day I feed them in the late afternoon to get them closer to their schedule, then back on morning feedings the third day. When you changed the water, was it around the same temperature as the water in the tank? Do you heat it?

yeah yesterday i was fed him in the evening unlike the regular mornings...

and water added was at a little higher temperature, as i read here that they need water at higher temperatures. heater is not there in his globe, so i just added preheated water... i hope i dint commit a blunder by doing so!!!

the change in temp from the preheated water to his tank water may have given him a shock

Just treat him well and pamper him. He'll get back to his good-ol-self. :)

not necessarily. it could be anything or any problem.

i just did a 50% water change yesterday and then he did not even eat his food for half hour and was very lethargic...
but later gained his pace...

if he hasnt eaten the food in 2-3 minutes remove it and try again the next day. bettas can go 12 odd days without any food
colour fade is usually a sign of sick.

his colour was back last evening, he was all happy and i even saw his first bubble nest and lot many flares :D... i guess he is not sick then!?!?!

but again once the lights went off for 2 hrs, he was back to lazy faded self, sitting quitely at the bottom of his globe...

and then again in the morning, another bubble nest and hapy-go-lucky Luan.

he is just moody right, not sick???? and once i do his 100% water change tomorrow, will he still make his nests???

I think it was a temp shock, nothing to be concerned about. Next time you change water use the same temp as the old water.

Most betta will go pale when given a wc. It's stress sign, but normal. Usually after he sits in his tank for a few minutes, he will regain his color.

Bettas are day creatures mostly. They become inactive at night. Try putting them in the dark during the day - they will still be active. But at night they don't move much - not lethargic.
