1 reason why heaters won't turn off

I found out that when I cleaned my glass on the aquarium with the magnet scrappers that when I get close to the heater (marina 25w) the magnet will turn on the heater when I got close. When I moved the magnet away, the light on the heater turned off. With these magnets, people like to keep it out of sight in the back, much like a heater. So if the magnet is close to the heater, you might cook your fish because your heater won't turn off.
