Sterilite container for hamster?

Could I use a large Sterilite container (the 51 liter one) for a Hamster cage? I want a new hamster, but I won't have a ton of money to get a cage, and the only cage in my price range is pretty small. Also, the light weight of the plastic would make it easier for me to clean, and the hammie would have more room to run around. Thoughts? I know we kept rabbits in them TEMPORARILY when I was younger, and they couldn't chew through them. Thanks!

Actually, plastic bins make very good cages for hamsters :) My mom never let me use one because they weren't "pretty" but they're an easy way to provide enough space. Just google "hamster bin cage" and you should find a ton of results as to how to modify it.

Welcome! I had a hamster who was the sweetest guy, and I still miss him even after he passed away over a year ago. Provided they're socialized right, they're very cuddly.

Yeah, my hamster died about a year ago, also. I had her for 2 years. I traded an opaque bin of mine for one of my mom's clear bins. Now I just need more bedding, a bottle, wheel, food dish, ball, and of course, another hamster. =)

D'aww, I miss having a hamster that I can show affection towards! My mom has one, but she bites if you try to pick her up :P

I'm definitely going to handle the hamsters at the store before I choose one. The dwarfs at my LPS didn't bite at all, which is new to me. I've NEVER had a dwarf that didn't bite.

I had a dwarf hamster once. I have very fond memories of her dangling on my finger... by her TEETH. :P

That happened to me with one of my sisters Gerbils. I've hated gerbils ever since.
