Hmmm... what do you think?

Dumbo got a new tank yesterday! He upgraded from a 1 gallon vase to a 5.35 gallon critter keeper. Yay! I am not sure how often i am supposed to do water changes though? I do not have a filter (there aren't any openings in the lid for it. ;/). This morning I took out a little more than a quart and replaced it with clean, conditioned water. I was going to take out another quart, but then realized in my 1 gallon jug for water changes I didn't have enough water. I am having the new water sit with the conditioner for a little while. But just how often should I do partials and/or 100%? I've never had a tank this large before. :)

Without a filter, I think it's one 50% and one 100% per week. :)

(You may want to add a hiding spot for your fish in your tank as well. Even a coffee mug on its side would work.)

I really love 100% water changes. I have one of my friends she has 10gall and 2 bettas in there. I know she does 100% water changes every 2 weeks. And she also don't have filter. I really love 100% water changes. I do 100% for 2.5 gall.

I change them every 4 days for 2.5 gall.

WOW, that's a great thread Tokala! Thank you very much. 50% 3x a week, and 100% once every other week. That's nice! :) I have a little filter, I will maybe try to get that to fit somewhere in the tank. I like 100% too bettachka. :) But this tank is heeeeavy! :D 5.35 gallons = alottawatta. :)
Canuck fins - I will go find one now! I was thinking about using one... :) Those plants are fine right? They are silk. :)

In terms of adding a filter, I have seen a lot of people just cut out a whole in the back to allow for the filter. Just a thought. Then you can cycle the tank which will make your life easier!

I'd love to get it cycled! That would be great! I don't know about cutting an opening though. The plastic is tough! But I'll try to pop out just a few bars for the filter tubing. :) I'll do it later though. Thanks!

On the top of that kind of keeper there should be small circular hole-like spaces, if you get a filter that uses tubing you can run it through that after you punch out the little "x" shaped plastic bits in the center.
I did that :B

There is a hole, about 2.5 inches in diameter? But it's a few inches toward the center from the wall, wouldn't the hose going through the hole yank it off the wall? It's hard to explain... but like, the hose would be going forward first before it goes back... oh well! I'll work on it. Saw the new betta you are getting, congrats! He's so pretty. :)
