It's hard to tell from the picture, but it's possible he could be biting his tail/fins. Do the ends look feathery? It's also possible he might have gotten his fins caught on the filter.

Don't bother with the medications, most of them can do more harm then good, even if they say its for bettas. Clean water and aquarium salt will keep his fins healthy and prevent infection. :)

Good luck!

I agree, medicines should be a last resort in my opinion.

Ok, I'm really starting to panic. He's now stuck vertical and can't move his "arm" fins or his gills, but he tries to swim up to get oxygen. I don't know what's going on. I used a little bit of the medicine said to cure fin-rot and other ailments (since he wasn't getting better, and I am 100% sure I used the right amount) and now he's all pale and can only breathe from air. What's going on? Is there anything I can do?

He's been moving around a bit more since this picture, but I'm still concerned.

I know you guys said not to try the medicine, but I was out of options. It was progressing rapidly, and he was loosing his fins faster than you could blink.

The medicine is likely making him lethargic. Make sure he has warm, clean water. Are you worried about tailbiting and that's why you gave him meds?

He's already passed on to the great waters in the sky. He wasn't tail-biting. He had fin-rot. I could see the bacteria colonies on his fins. Plus his fins turned grey.
